How the duration is calculated
Both times are converted to total minutes from midnight. The start is subtracted from the end to get the difference in minutes. If the end time is earlier than the start, 24 hours are added so overnight shifts (for example 22:00 to 06:00) come out correctly. The result is then shown as hours and minutes, total minutes, and decimal hours.
