How the countdown is calculated
The tool takes today's date from your device and subtracts it from the target date you choose. Both dates are normalised to midnight so partial days do not throw off the count, then the difference is divided into whole days. From that day total it also derives the equivalent number of weeks and an approximate number of months, giving you a quick sense of how far away the event really is.

Does the count include today and the target day?
The day count is the number of full days between today and your target date. A date set for tomorrow shows 1 day. A date set for today shows 0 days, meaning the event is today.

Yes. If you choose a date that has already passed, the tool tells you how many days ago it was instead of how many days until it.
Does it account for leap years?
