Frequently asked questions

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Multiply the Celsius value by 9, divide by 5, then add 32. For example, 20 degrees Celsius is 20 times 9 divided by 5, which is 36, plus 32, giving 68 degrees Fahrenheit. The converter does this for you the moment you type.

How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?

Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit value, multiply by 5, then divide by 9. For example, 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit minus 32 is 66.6, times 5 is 333, divided by 9 is 37 degrees Celsius, which is normal body temperature.

What is Kelvin used for?

Kelvin is the scientific temperature scale that starts at absolute zero, the coldest possible temperature. To get Kelvin from Celsius you add 273.15. It is used in physics and chemistry because it has no negative values.

What oven temperature is gas mark 4?

Gas mark 4 is about 180 degrees Celsius or 350 degrees Fahrenheit, a common setting for baking cakes and roasting. The gas mark reference table on this page lists the full range so you can match any recipe.

Does this converter store what I enter?
