Calculate your pace
Fill in any two fields, then choose what to solve for.
How the pace calculation works
Pace is simply time divided by distance. Run 5 km in 25 minutes and your pace is 5 minutes per km. To find a finish time, multiply pace by distance: at 9 minutes per mile a 26.2 mile marathon takes about 235.8 minutes, roughly 3 hours 56 minutes. To convert between units, divide pace per mile by 1.60934 to get pace per km, since one mile is about 1.60934 km.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate running pace?
Pace equals total time divided by distance. For example, 25 minutes over 5 km is a pace of 5 minutes per km. This calculator does it automatically and also converts between minutes per mile and minutes per km.
What is the difference between pace and speed?
Pace is time per distance, such as minutes per mile. Speed is distance per time, such as miles per hour. They describe the same effort from opposite directions. This tool shows both.
How do I convert pace per mile to pace per km?
Divide your pace per mile by 1.60934 to get pace per km, because one mile is about 1.60934 km. The calculator shows both at once so no manual conversion is needed.
How do I find my finish time from a pace?
Multiply your pace by the race distance. At 9 minutes per mile, a 26.2 mile marathon takes about 235.8 minutes, which is roughly 3 hours 56 minutes. Enter pace and distance and the calculator finds the time.
